October 30, 2009

Talk about the wrong outfit. Denver International Airport reported about 12" of snow over the last two days. It was great. We took the kids out and threw them around the first day of it, now it's time to actually deal with it.

October 29, 2009

Oh, pumpkin carving is a fun but messy business. The kids really seemed to enjoy it though, as did my girlfriend and our friend Jen. We did 6: two for Jen (a Yoda silhouette and a ghost) and then four for our patio. We haven't lit them at all, and now the kids are with their father for the weekend, so they may remain unlit. But it was a good time.

October 28, 2009

Oh, what a beautiful morning. A nice snowy day, the kind just made for hot chocolate and fireplaces. Not looking forward to catching the train to school though. Gonna be a cold walk. We're supposed to get up to 15 inches, according to some reports. Not sure I'm buying that. Still, beats the Arizona summer.

October 27, 2009

It's interesting to see what kind of people ride the light rail. This young lady got on at the University of Denver stop. She and her friend were heading downtown to meet some friends. She must have recently celebrated a birthday, she talked on and on about the gifts she'd gotten, many of which sounded more appropriate for a younger girl. The purse apparently was a gift from an uncle who is currently in Switzerland. Ah, the things people talk about.

That redheaded beauty that shows up on the train, showed up yet again. A great body, beautiful hair, I just wish she smiled more. I also wish I was the type of guy to strike up a conversation. On the other hand, I suppose my girlfriend would object. And then, my mystery Red is probably way to young for me. Still, she does make the train ride to school much more pleasant.

Okay, obviously not one of mine, but I came across it on the web while I was trying to put off studying. A friend of mine at work got written up for this and, when I sent it to her, she laughed and laughed. I thought about sending it to the HR direcctor, but I can't imagine she has quite the same sense of humor.

October 24, 2009

Now this is the way to end the day. There's nothing more satisfying at the end of the day than a pint of Guinness, even when your day ends as normal people are waking up. When you work overnights, it takes some getting used to, the looks you get when your trying to find a bar that opens at 9am. Luckily, I've adapted well.

October 23, 2009

Crowded night on the Light rail. Then again I'm out far earlier than normal. It's always interesting to me to see how people react in tight quarters like this. We love our personal space in the U.S. and to have a complete stranger sitting next to you can be unnerving for many. Usually, the only people I see chatting are the ones who get on together. I rarely see a person sit across from someone and strike up a conversation. Then again, since most people are on their MP3 or cell phones, the opportunity to talk is less than it was.

October 22, 2009

There is a tradition, it seems, on college campuses, that there must always be one religious speaker who is out preaching to the masses, being egged on by the crowd. There was one when I went to University of Arizona. There was one at Northern Arizona University. And there's this guy at Metropolitan State College of Denver. This guy at least seems to enjoy it, and frequently is smiling while engaging the crowd. The crowd sometimes, not so much.

October 21, 2009

It was a cold day, a light snow fell all day long. From one window it looked like it was coming down pretty good, from the other it looked clear. On the way to the light rail, it was just kind of a fine mist coming down that left a little white here and there.

She was just sitting there, lost in thought. She was talking to another woman when she got on at Metro, but her friend had gotten off a few stops back. She glanced at her cell a couple times, with a casual, disinterested look.

Introduction

I thought about the variety of images I see on a day to day basis, on my way to and fro, and decided I wanted to take a moment out of my day to share with you a little of what I see. To begin, I wanted to share an image of a beautiful young woman who rode on the train with me today. I never got to see her face, but the red-gold shimmer of her hair captured me.

I can only hope I'll get to see her again someday.
